The Freedom of Forgiveness

Forgivness is for the strong

Coach Erik here:

Life becomes easier when we learn to accept the apologies we’ve never received.

Forgiveness does not exonerate behavior. However it does free us from experiencing the pain of the past in the present moment. The Buddha once said, “Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.” I invite you to free yourself of this toxic energy by letting go of the anger and giving up all hope for a brand new past.

Take away: Forgiveness is not about healing others. It’s about healing ourselves.

Your Body is Listening

stay positive

New science behind the mind-body connection has huge implications on how we can transform our bodies and our lives.

Dr. Candace Pert a neuroscientist and psychopharmacologist and the author of the groundbreaking book, Molecules of Emotion http://amzn.to/INapak has forever changed the way we approach wellness and lasting transformation.

Dr. Pert has discovered messenger molecules called neuropeptides (once believed to be only in the brain) all over the human body. What we now know is your body “hears” and reacts to what your mind says and vise versa.

She writes, ” All systems of the body exchange neuropeptide information and it is the internal feeling state (emotions) that elicits the neuropeptide response. This is the mind-body connection in which every change in the mental-emotional state causes a change in body physiology. Likewise every change in the body physiology causes a change in the mental-emotional state.”

Take away: Every positive thought, empowered action or loving feeling contributes to your health and wellness on a cellular level. Everything counts!

Worrier to Warrior

worrier to warrior

A worrier is polarized by fear and inadvertently prays for what he doesn’t want.

A warrior takes action in spite of fear.

Her eyes are on the outcome she desires. She is steeped in faith and courage. A warrior knows that there is a force inside her that is stronger then any challenge that stands in her way.

Take away: Be a warrior today.

Dead Weight

drop keysCoach Erik here:

Are you carrying around an old story that has sabotaged your ability to live fully and joyfully in the present?

I recently received a note from one of my greatest inspirations, my dad which powerfully illustrates this point:

“For many years I have carried a ring with a least 25-30 keys on it. At one time or another I knew what these keys were for. But as time went on I forgot that information. So the keys were in effect “dead-weight.” However I continued to carry them around, maybe out of habit. Until last week I realized: WOW I will toss ALL of them except those keys I currently use. So I was left with 4 keys only. A weight was lifted, literally and figuratively.

Take away: If it has no use in the present it’s dead weight. Perhaps it’s time to throw away the keys to the locks you never use.

How to Easily Cut 500 Calories Per Day

smallplates

Coach Erik here:

When it comes to weight management consider using a smaller plate. Studies show replacing a 12 inch plate with a 10 inch plate can reduce your caloric intake by up to 500 calories. And you won’t feel any less satiated researchers say.

Take away: A simple way to create mindfulness around food while managing your caloric intake is to use a smaller plate. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

The Dog Ate My Homework

excuses : exercise

Coach Erik here:

The greatest excuse we give ourselves for not exercising regularly is I don’t have time. This is a grown up version of the dog ate my homework.

The truth is we have all the time there is. The question is your fitness ritual a priority or an add on? A should or a must? A have to or a get to? I invite you to make a fitness/wellness appointment with yourself everyday. Guard your time fiercely and remember everything counts.

Take away: If you want something bad enough you will find a way otherwise you will find an excuse. Don’t let the excuse of, “i don’t have time” steal the happiness and vitality you deserve. Make it happen.

You’ll be glad you did.

Thank You

Coach Erik here:

The untrained mind when left to it’s own cunning devices can always come up with a reason why you are not good enough. I offer the antidote to this insidious disease of “not enough” is gratitude.

It’s not happiness that brings you gratitude it’s gratitude that brings you happiness. I invite you to rock an attitude of gratitude today. What are you most grateful for? Notice how it feels to turn inward and celebrate all of the gifts that you already have.

Take away: Gratitude is one of the most powerful of all human emotions and a potent antidote to the disease of “not enough.” The simple prayer, “thank you” instantly transforms your brain chemistry and is a catalyst for abundant happiness.

Travel Fitness Tips: Staying on Track While You’re on the Road

maintain fitness while traveling By Mike Manning

Staying fit while on the road can be very difficult for many travelers. Temptations abound. Too often, when travelers return home they have lost all of their momentum from their fitness regimen. Sometimes they get it back. Sometimes they don’t.

Many of the common pitfalls that travelers fall into while traveling can be avoided with a little determination and planning. Let’s take a look at a few ways to ensure that your fitness does not suffer while you are traveling.

Booking your hotel

When it comes to travel fitness, planning starts with selecting a hotel. Many hotels now offer a variety of exercise options. Many have fitness centers in the hotel itself, exercise equipment, and running trails. Doing your research in advance can reveal these places. Go online before booking your hotel and look for hotels with gyms. On my most recent trip to San Francisco I booked a hotel that had a 24-hour gym by doing some research on a site called Gogobot, which gave me a large list of hotels in San Francisco. From here I was able to scan through the hotels and see which ones had the proper fitness amenities for my needs.

No gym? No problem.

If you cannot find a hotel with a fitness center, no problem. You still have options. For example, you could bring a yoga mat with you. You could perform yoga moves, stretching, and other types of aerobics right in your own hotel room. You could also bring a set of dumbbells or resistance bands. Resistance bands have the advantage of being more lightweight and packable.

Sometimes, a hotel without a gym does have walking or running trails nearby. If so, be sure to take advantage of the opportunity. Pack your running clothes and shoes. If you are unfamiliar with the area, be sure to ask the hotel staff if the area is considered safe.

You can also do aerobics near the hotel grounds. Jumping jacks, sit-ups, and other forms of aerobic activity do not require much space. Get moving. If your hotel has a swimming pool, bring your swimming trunks along.

Healthy eating

Probably the greatest temptation when it comes to travel fitness is overindulging in food or alcohol. While it is fine to indulge occasionally, it is important to show some restraint in this department.

Find a restaurant that caters to your individual dietary needs. Eat salads, while taking it easy on the fattening extras. Eat normal portions and take any extra food with you to the hotel.

When you return home, get back into your normal exercise routine as soon as possible. The hardest part is the first few days. Once you have resumed your normal habits, it will be much easier to maintain.

How do you Inspire someone you love?

candle reflection in mirror

Edith Wharton once wrote, “there are two ways to spread light, be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” The way to inspire someone you love is to be both the candle and the mirror. Be the candle by being on fire, being inspired, walking the talk and sharing your light. Be the mirror by reflecting their power to take inspired action through encouragement, celebration and unconditional love.
Take away: To inspire one must be inspired. Spread light by being both the candle and the mirror. And remember unconditional love creates miracles!
