Authentic Happiness: Giving Away What You Want The Most

Authentic Happiness: Giving Away What You Want The Most

Coach Erik here:

We all want to be happy and feel connected. We all want to be loved and we all want to be understood.

During my early adult life I spent a lot of energy acquiring, accomplishing and experiencing at the expense of authentically connecting. While I did a lot and reached a lot of goals, I always felt like my glass was half full. Something was missing.

The transformation for me started when I began to seek to understand and not just be understood. To not just ascend the ladder of “success” but to reach down and try to lift someone else up. To not just seek to be loved and admired, but to love unconditionally and without judgment. I say this not to impress you but to impress upon you that there are few things in life more healing and miraculous then authentically connecting with another human being. To listen and hear. To be fully present. To share courageously. To “show up.”

Have you felt disconnected lately? Are you furiously climbing the ladder of “success” at the expense of your relationships? Are you hungry to be loved, understood and heard? Is there a conversation that you need to have with someone? Is there a relationship that you want to feel more complete with? Are you fully present with the ones you love the most?

The take away message is this: to get what you want, consider you must first give it away. Give away your understanding. Give away your time. Give away your forgiveness. Give away your love.

I offer authentic happiness does not require the right body, the right house, the right car, the right job or the right pedigree.

Authentic happiness begins and ends with the quality of your relationships. And that is free.

Live Fit and Be well,

Erik

So true. We have a no looking at your phone policy when we go out as a family. Remember we will regret not giving our family our undevided attention. We won’t regret the overtime we didn’t do to be with them.

i find that saying thank you for little things helps my teens do the same and pays forward.
